Some life choices such as where to live and with whom one chooses to spend their time define life. Moving from one’s home to a personal care facility is such a choice. For most considering a personal care facility as a new home, accommodations, safety, atmosphere and maintaining the highest level of independence possible are of greatest importance. Quality of care is also a serious consideration for those who need greater assistance with activities of daily living (ADL). The staff at Ligonier Gardens is prepared to assist you and your loved ones in reviewing these and other important considerations when making a move as important as choosing a personal care home.
At Ligonier Gardens, it is the goal of each staff person to respect individuality, and encourage resident independence and freedom of choice. Our most important commitment is the treatment of each resident with kindness and compassion -- at all times striving to preserve the residents’ dignity while attending to their physical, emotional, and spiritual needs. The philosophy of the Ligonier Gardens is to provide personalized, resident centered care in order to meet individual preferences and requirements. To help in maintaining the “Spirit for Living”, residents' family members and friends are encouraged to get involved in the personal care community.
Fondly referred to as “The Gardens” by many residents, Ligonier Gardens backs onto a serene setting along the Loyalhanna Creek and offers home to 71 residents. With generously sized private and semi-private rooms, Ligonier Gardens has numerous gathering places throughout the building including a large living room, dining room, two games rooms, solarium and outside porch. This allows space for group meetings and self-planned socialization as well as activities scheduled and lead by the Activities Department.
The largest community gathering place is the restaurant-style dining area where residents are provided three meals a day with snacks and beverages available 24 hours a day. For the noon and evening meals, residents may select from a specially prepared home cooked meal or several other daily choices. Accommodations for special dietary requirements are made. Portions of this room are used for various other activities including viewing programs on the large screen TV, musical presentations, and church services. As a faith-based organization with a strong heritage associated with the American Hungarian Reformed Church, regular church services are offered weekly in both English and Hungarian. Additionally, bible study and pastoral support are available for residents who choose to take advantage of the services.
Many other amenities such as cable television, housekeeping, personal laundry, transportation, and salon/barber services are available to help make life simpler and more enjoyable for Garden residents. Exercise and wellness programs as well as social and recreational activities are offered to add to the quality of life. Residents enjoy activities, such as bingo, card games, entertainment and outings to local restaurants and shopping in our handicap accessible bus. Over time, residents look forward to regularly scheduled entertainers or events. Horseracing at the Gardens, weekly movies complete with popcorn, and holiday celebrations all make Ligonier Gardens “home” and neighbors who live there “family” to the residents.
